Caltrac makes the difference
In a recent apple field demonstration in the North-East USA Caltrac was applied throughout the season to maintain calcium levels in the developing fruitlets. Caltrac, Phosyn´s formulated flowable product, was looked at in comparison to calcium chloride.
The difference in calcium level at harvest was between 4.1 mg/100g following calcium chloride treatment and 5.2 mg/100g for the Caltrac treatment.
Given that the harvest target level for calcium in apples is 5 mg/100g the Caltrac treatment maintained levels in the sufficiency range, while the crop treated with calcium chloride was below the harvest guideline and is therefore at higher risk from storage and quality problems.
