Cherry quality improved by nutrition

Research in Tasmania, Australia has clearly demonstrated the link between adequate nutrition and improved cherry quality. Fruit samples were taken from 6 orchards and were independently assessed for harvest quality, storability and shelf life.

Comparison of the mineral levels in both fruit and leaves from the "best" and "worst" samples showed some interesting differences. Perhaps not surprisingly the best fruit had higher levels of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, boron and zinc and a lower level of nitrogen. These findings were the same for leaf analysis showing the real benefits that can be achieved with the use of Phosyn foliar sprays.
