Reducing Internal Rust Spot

Internal Rust Spot (Internal Brown Spot) is common and this serious physiological disorder can ruin the value of a potato crop.

Calcium status of the tuber is known to be associated with the disorder, and Phosyn´s extensive trials program has been testing the most efficient ways of increasing levels of calcium.

Phosyn return to China in October for the Yantai Fruit Fair in the Shandong province in the North East of the country. This will certainly keep the guys busy as there is an expected turnout of one million visitors for the fair. The Chinese army is on standby for the return of the double act!

Independant Trials Program

Independent trials commisioned by Phosyn in the major potato growing areas of the world were carried out from 1997 to 2000.

1997: Stopit application gave a 20.5% increase in tuber calcium and reduced incidence on Internal Rust Spot

1998: Bortrac 150 and Stopit quality program resulted in statistically significant reduction in incidence and severity of Internal Rust Spot.

2000: Bortrac 150 and Caltrac show substantial elevations in tuber calcium

Quality Results

Bortrac 150 was applied at 2 l/ha one week after 100% emergence. Stopit was applied at 10 l/ha at tuber initiation.
