Farmers worry wacky weather will hurt crops

In a recent article from Manitoba publication The Daily Graphic, Patrick Caron reported on the weather´s effects on various crops in the region.

"I´d say the beans are suffering from too much moisture for sure" said Jill Jackson of Manitoba Agriculture.

Portage la Prairie area farmers are worried about low crop yields thanks to too much rain and now too much heat. Phosyn´s Jeff Bereza talked of a "swath of flooding" whilst on the Wiebe property near Rossendale. Jeff is pictured taking samples for analysis through the Megalab system that gives nutrient analysis results and advice over the Internet.

"Situations like these show the importance of balanced nutrition in the potato crop. We cannot control Mother Nature, but by getting the crop up and away early using analysis, correct fertilization, micronutrient applications post-emergence where required and the correct bulking program of formulated foliar products, a stronger crop is established earlier."
